The thing about Advent is that it is very hopeful. I think in 2020, we could all use a little hope. Advent is a time of anticipation. It’s a four-week journey of ever-increasing hope that our waiting, our arduous journey, and our longing is worth it. In fact, it is more than we could expect! Certainly the journey changes us (which always makes journeys worthwhile), but then at the end of the Advent we discover, much to our delight, we encounter the God who is with us. And come to find out, He has been with us all along.
Advent opens our eyes to the with-God journey when we have focused on lesser things.
I hope you will join me as we make space in our crowded hearts for the coming of Jesus: not just a one-time event as a child so long ago, but how his coming invades our lives everyday if we have eyes to see.
