Advent: Let the Weary Souls Rejoice

Today is the first day of Advent. It’s perfect timing. For too many weeks I have lived outwardly and inwardly rushed. I feel scattered and find myself whizzing through my obligations without time for any kind of reflection, space, or meaningful connection to God and even those I love. Sheesh. All my good intentions have crumble into a heap at the feet of a packed schedule and unrelenting hurriedness. I am desperately in need of something more sacred than all of my hurrying.

For all those, like me, who are weary, Advent serves as a nourishing rhythm for runaway lives.

I hope you will join me as we make space in our crowded hearts for the coming of Jesus: not just a one-time event as a child so long ago, but how his coming invades our lives everyday if we have eyes to see.

If you are looking for a daily Advent devotional this season, check out my ebook Advent Reflections: Let the Weary World Rejoice.

Advent Reflection offers a daily scripture, devotional, and reflection questions.

It is my hope that in the midst of our frenzied lives I hope this tool allows you to pause and pay attention to the places where God is near…and, somehow in the midst of the hustle and bustle, may your weary soul rejoice!

  1. Thank you Gail for these good reminders. Enjoy your first day of Advent and God bless you this Christmas season!
